Description:
  • Vitanovo Reserve is located 9 km from the town of Malko Tarnovo and 5 km from the village of Brashlyan. It is the second largest Strandzha reserve after Uzunbudjak. А тypical forest reserve.
  • There are 462 species of higher plants, 421 species of herbaceous plants, 26 relics and 9 Balkan endemics on its territory. Characteristic of the flora of the reserve are the forests of eastern beech and eastern sessile oak, hornbeam, cer and common hornbeam.
  • 301 animal species have been identified in the Vitanovo Reserve and the Mechite Dolove (Bear Plato’s) Protected Area, of which 38 are taxa of aquatic and 138 species of terrestrial invertebrates, 2 species of fish, 7 species of amphibians, 18 species of reptiles, 52 species of birds, 46 species of mammals. 33 species of vertebrates are listed in the Red Book of Bulgaria.
  • In Vitanovo is preserved one of the few natural habitats of red deer. In the more distant past, there were probably bears, judging by the other names of places – Mechi dol (Bear Plato), Mechkobievo (Bear Hunting Area), Mechovi polyani (Bear Medows).
  • Balkan trout can be found in the clear waters of Aidere river.
  • The great wealth of the area are the karst springs in Golyamo and Malko Aydere rivers and the cave formations.
  • The Bratanova Cave with beautiful halls and forms of stalactites and stalagmites is well studied and known by the tourists.
