Dormition of the Mother of God Church

Church of the Assumption in the town of Malko Tarnovo is located in the city center. It was built in 1830 on the site of an old church dating from 1754. In the same place in antiquity there was a Thracian sanctuary.

The church is built in the typical local style with crushed stone. Its walls have built-in ancient pediments, taken from the Thracian and Roman sanctuaries in the city and its surroundings. The temple has over 160 icons by local masters Strandzha Icon Painting School.
